What is Hypnotherapy?

Will I be asleep or under your control?

Definitely not. Hypnotherapy is not like what you see in the movies or on TV. You’ll remain awake, aware and in control at ALL times. Hypnosis feels like daydreaming, or being deeply absorbed in a good book. You can hear everything that’s said, and you can choose to open your eyes or stop the session at any time.

What does a session feel like?

Most of my clients describe it as deeply relaxing — like being in a calm, peaceful state between waking and sleep. You may notice your body relaxing while your mind feels clear and focused. After the session, you’ll feel refreshed, calm, and centred.

How many sessions will I need?

This will depend on your goals and how long the issue has been present. Some clients notice meaningful changes after just one or two sessions, while others benefit from a short series. We’ll discuss your goals together and create a personalised plan that feels right for you.

What should I expect after a session?

After a session, you might feel calm, clear, and uplifted. Changes can happen subtly — you may notice new thoughts, behaviours, or feelings unfolding over the following days as your subconscious mind integrates the suggestions.

Is hypnotherapy safe? What about side effects?

Hypnotherapy is a safe and well-established therapy when practiced by a trained professional. You’ll always be in control, and nothing happens without your consent or participation.

Occasionally you may feel a bit tired, emotional, or reflective for a short while, as your mind processes the changes, similar to how you might feel after a deep meditation or counselling session.

These effects are usually mild and temporary. If anything ever feels uncomfortable, you can simply open your eyes and end the session at any time.

Can anyone be hypnotised?

Most people can — as long as they’re open and willing to participate. Hypnosis is a natural state that we all experience every day (like when you’re lost in thought or driving on “autopilot”). The more comfortable and relaxed you are, the easier it becomes.
